Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am concerned about being tracked with InLocality Blue
A: This is a valid concern. Your employer should have already spoken to you about the privacy issues involved with InLocality Blue, and how they manage the information concerning where you are. You should be aware that in some cases the employer has a legal responsibility to know where you are at all times.

Having said that, InLocality Blue relies on YOU to configure YOUR mobile phone to allow it to be tracked. Simply not having the mobile phone with you is the simplest way not to be tracked. Another was is to disable Bluetooth Browsable function on your phone. This will allow Bluetooth to operate but will not allow InLocality Blue to track you.

Q: What about everyone who has this InLocality Blue software loaded onto their PCs?
A: The software that is loaded onto most PCs will only monitor where Bluetooth devices are located and report them back to the server. It will NOT allow the user of that PC to know where you are. However, since Bluetooth only has a range of about 10m, the user of the PC will simply be able to stand up and see that you are nearby anyway?

Q: My Employees are Unhappy about being Tracked. What should I do?
A: You should firstly talk to them. Explain why you want to track their movements and how this will assist the business. Explain how it may help them too. One way to offer them something is to offer the InLocality WhereIs software allowing them to see where their friends and colleagues within the organisation are.

Also, consider not tracking the entire workforce, but parts of it. Members of the finance department may not need to be tracked. Members of the mail department might in case of urgent parcels. It might be decided not to track staff during the day, but only monitor where they are at night in case they have health problems.

Q: How else can tracking information be used?
A: There are some intelligent ways that information can be used. For instance, for an employee from the IT group who fixes PCs in the office, it is possible to direct phone calls to an extension near where they are working. Another use might be to only allow their access control card if they are nearby improving security since it is much harder to steal a mobile phone and an ID card.

Q: How is InLocality Blue different from your competition?
A: Every other solution on the market that we know about requires that a user carry something in order to be tracked. People carry their cellphones around everywhere, and even then the number of phones lost each year is staggering. So, rather than requiring an employee to carry something else, we have devised a system where they only carry what they already carry. Sure, they might still leave it behind, but it is much less likely that they will leave a phone at work or home than a small tracking device.

Q: Why Bluetooth? Why not ZigBee?
A: Well, Bluetooth is built into most mobile phones. That means that you don't need to carry anything else. ZigBee is a great technology, and we will probably support it in the future. But it means extra hardware.

Q: I am a device manufacturer. Can you track my devices? Will you license the InLocality technology to me?
A: Of course. InLocality is always on the lookout for new markets.
